As described in the Local_Development_Strategy, the Wisbech Community Led Local Development area covers the whole of Wisbech town (the wards of Clarkson, Kirkgate, Waterlees, Hill, Peckover, Staithe and Medworth) and parts of surrounding parishes including part of Roman Bank; the Walsoken part of Walton Ward; the Emneth part of Emneth with Outwell Ward and the Elm and Friday Bridge parts of the Elm and Christchurch Ward.
European Social Fund rules say that a CLLD area must have a population of not less than 10,000 and not more than 150,000. Within the Wisbech CLLD area there’s a population of approximately 31,000 people.
The Wisbech CLLD area abuts two rural LEADER areas – the Cambridgeshire Fens LEADER programme and the West Norfolk LEADER programme. These programmes use the same ‘bottom up’ approach to economic development and apply it in a defined rural area.
